Cellulose Ethers

I modified a well-known CELLULOSE ETHERS USED IN CONSERVATION[PDF] table to help me remember key characteristics of the different cellulose ethers that are commonly available and used in conservation treatment as adhesive binders, leather consolidants, and fixatives such as

  • Methyl cellulose (MC)
  • Ethyl cellulose (EC)
  • Hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC)
  • Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC)
  • Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)
  • Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (SCMC)

Read more about them individually in the Pre-Coated Bibliography
